FAQ: Note Stacks – Copy notes database to new phone

These are the steps to copy the notes from the old phone to the new phone

1. Backup on the old phone
Do a backup on the old phone. (Menu -> Backup).
Ensure that the backup is successful.

2. Copy backup file (filename: notes.db) from the old phone to the new phone

2.1 Copy through the cloud using Google Drive, Dropbox etc
2.1.1 Copy backup file to cloud from the old phone
Copy the backed up notes database file to the cloud from the following folder
free version – /sdcard/data/com.gwofoundry.notestacks/backup/notes.db
paid version – /sdcard/data/com.gwofoundry.notestackspro/backup/notes.db

2.1.2 Copy the backup file from the cloud to the new phone
Copy the file from the cloud to the following folder in the new phone
free version – /sdcard/data/com.gwofoundry.notestacks/backup/notes.db
paid version – /sdcard/data/com.gwofoundry.notestackspro/backup/notes.db
Hint: do a backup on the new phone so the the folder will be created automatically.

2.2 Copy through other methods
The backup file (filename: notes.db) can be copied through other methods like sdcard, connect to computer etc.
2.2.1 Copy the file from the old phone the new phone
Copy file “notes.db” from the old phone the new phone from and to the following folders
free version – /sdcard/data/com.gwofoundry.notestacks/backup/notes.db
paid version – /sdcard/data/com.gwofoundry.notestackspro/backup/notes.db

Note: in case you have deleted the app in the old phone
The notes database is automatically backup in the following folders
free version – /sdcard/data/com.gwofoundry.notestacks/backup/auto/notes.dbX
paid version – /sdcard/data/com.gwofoundry.notestackspro/backup/auto/notes.dbX
where X = 0,1,2,3 where 0 is the latest backup and 3 is the older backup
In the step 2 above, copy one of the file in the auto backup folder and rename to “notes.db”

3. New notes in the new phone
In case you have new notes in the new phone you want to keep, export the new notes to text file.
Long tap on the note title, select “Export text (Markup)”

4. Do a restore on the new phone. (Menu -> Restore)
This will restore the notes database in the new phone. The restore will delete all existing notes in the new phone

5. Load the exported notes back into the app
Do an import (Menu -> Import Text (Markup)) to load previously export notes.

The notes are now in the new phone.

FAQ: Praise Notepad KJV – Backup/Restore notes database to/from computer or cloud storage

The notes database can be backed up to your computer or cloud storage but this has to be done manually.

1. Do a backup from the main screen from the Menu/Backup
2. The notes database will be copied to the sdcard in the following folder:
free version – /sdcard/data/com.gwofoundry.praise/backup/notes.db
paid version – /sdcard/data/com.gwofoundry.praisenotepad/backup/notes.db
3. Use a file manager to copy the file notes.db to your computer or to a cloud storage like Dropbox

Restore the backed up notes.db
1. Copy the notes.db to the following
free version – /sdcard/data/com.gwofoundry.praise/backup/notes.db
paid version – /sdcard/data/com.gwofoundry.praisenotepad/backup/notes.db
2. Do a restore from the main screen from the Menu/Restore
3. Recreate the labels

Change the label for a note

1. Tap to edit the note.
2. Tap on the “label” button in the view note where button shows the actual label name.
3. A label dialog box will be shown. Select the desired label.

1. How to export note to text file or share a note?

Steps on how to share notes.

Step 1: Export or Share
There are three options to share the notes. Long press on the title of the note to bring up the options.

Options:
1. Export – this will export the note to sd card in plain text. The exported file can be found in
free version – /sdcard/data/com.gwofoundry.notestacks/text
paid version – /sdcard/data/com.gwofoundry.notestackspro/text

2. Export (markup) – this will export the note to sd card in plain text with markup. When imported the note will have the same layout as the original. The exported file can be found in
free version – /sdcard/data/com.gwofoundry.notestacks/markup-text
paid version – /sdcard/data/com.gwofoundry.notestackspro/markup-text

3. Share – Select the program that you want to share the note in. The note will be in plain text.

Step 2: Copy files
Copy the files to the appropriate folders in the other phone
Plain text –
free version – /sdcard/data/com.gwofoundry.notestacks/text
paid version – /sdcard/data/com.gwofoundry.notestackspro/text

Markup text –
free version – /sdcard/data/com.gwofoundry.notestacks/markup-text
paid version – /sdcard/data/com.gwofoundry.notestackspro/markup-text

Step 3: Import files
To import the exported text from option 1 and 2, select ‘Import Text’ or ‘Import Text (markup) from the MENU hardkey.

Import the note one at a time.
You may need to create new labels for the imported notes.
